TASKS. The contractor shall:

  • Work with staff on protocol development, including, but not limited to, providing input on study design (e.g. rationale, study objectives, objectives, subject safety, etc.), conducting reviews of clinical protocols and all supporting documents, and providing feedback to the Division of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (DMID) staff and clinical investigators.
  • Review pharmacovigilance reporting strategies (e.g. safety monitoring plans), incoming safety data (e.g. adverse event reporting), review of clinical study reports, investigator brochures, advisory committee recommendations, package inserts, and scientific literature.
  • Provide clinical expertise in the areas related to infectious diseases, vaccine development, and viral diseases to others within or outside of DMID as deemed appropriate and make recommendations to program staff on key clinical issues.
  • Lead and/or discuss clinical design and safety issues with representatives from various groups (e.g. DMID colleagues, industry representatives, contractors, grantees, and safety monitoring committee members, etc.) either by a written report or through discussion and/or presentation.
  • Develop and maintain a proficiency in accessing and reviewing clinical study related information from databases used by DMID/NIAID (National Institute of Allergy & Infectious Diseases), or as necessary, clinical study related information from databases used by other Branches or Offices in DMID/NIAID.


REQUIREMENTS. The contractor must have:

  • Medical degree from an accredited university.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of related clinical experience.
  • Documented extensive experience in the conduct of clinical research including the conduct of clinical trials related to infectious diseases (ideally viral diseases or substantial experience in other relevant clinical trials), including vaccine development, study design (e.g. study objectives, endpoints, etc.) and safety assessment.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
