TASKS. The contractor shall:

  • Provide expertise in and conduct manipulation of early-mouse embryos, including, but not limited to, isolation of mouse zygotes and blastocysts, culture of mouse embryos, and surgery for implantation of mouse embryos into pseudo-pregnant females.
  • Oversee mouse colony and PCR-based genotyping of mouse strains.
  • Maintain stocks of all reagents and equipment necessary for routine laboratory experiments.
  • Organize chemicals, reagents, equipment and common stocks of the laboratory.
  • Work with laboratory members on their projects, including, but not limited to, purification of bacterial and eukaryotic DNA, transformation and transfection of bacterial and eukaryotic cell lines, preparation of competent bacterial cell lines, etc.
  • Work with staff to ensure that the laboratory and staff members adhere to all safety laboratory regulations.
  • Work with laboratory head to establish laboratory guidelines for different sets of protocols.
  • Work with staff in the training of new laboratory members.
  • Update and maintain laboratory notebooks and databases.
  • Collect and analyze date; prepare summaries and reports.
  • Attend laboratory meetings; present results and findings for staff discussion.

REQUIREMENTS. The contractor must have:

  • Master’s degree in Biology or Life Sciences.  Two (2) years of specialized experience plus a BA/BS degree is equivalent to a MSc.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of laboratory experience.
  • Extensive experience with mouse handling.
  • Strong communications skills, both oral and written.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills.
