Job Summary:

Microbiologist III will review and approve microbiological reports.  He / She will also assist with various microbiology projects.

Duties:

  1. Ability to perform all microbiological test methods to include but not limited to: sterility testing of medical devices, bioburden, preservative effectiveness testing, log reduction, MIC/MBC, LAL, water testing as per Standard Methods, food testing as per FDA Methods and other tests.
  2. Perform all tests and duties according to cGMP’s. 
  3. Assist with special projects including creating test protocols.
  4. Assist management with overseeing tests and with scheduling tests as needed.
  5. Perform assigned special projects.
  6. Perform growth promotion and sterility test of all media.
  7. Maintain stock cultures.
  8. Perform and read environmental monitoring of the laboratory.
  9. Assist supervisor in writing and revising Methods and SOP’s.
  10. Train technicians and microbiologists in Methods and SOP’s. Document training.
  11. Review and sign microbiological reports.
  12. Review and approve all test deviations to a supervisor and initiate documentation.
  13. Perform other functions as needed.
  14. Assist client inquiries through oral or written communication.

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Working with or exposure to hazardous chemicals and materials.
  2. Working with known organisms that are potential pathogens, for example, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, etc.
  3. Traveling and performing environmental monitoring at client facility.
  4. Sitting and/or standing for extended periods of time, up to eight (8) hours per business day.
  5. Position requires working at a computer.
  6. Position may require the lifting of items up to 20 lb. in weight.

Qualifications:

  1. B.S. in Microbiology or higher.
  2. Five or more years’ experience or M.S. in Microbiology required.
  3. Able to multi-task.
  4. Detail oriented.
  5. Ability to work independently and/or in a team and follow instructions.
