Optical Test Engineer

This is a full-time and direct-hire position. This position is ONSITE in Santa Clara, CA.  No C2C or 3rd party or sponsorship at this time. We appreciate all of our applicants, but we are not able to sponsor at this time. 

A market leader in DIGITAL LOW-LIGHT IMAGING SENSORS AND SYSTEMS FOR THE DEFENSE INDUSTRY is seeking an optical test engineer to participate in the development and production of state of the art body-worn and portable vision and digital night vision systems used in applications including commercial virtual reality, training and simulation, man-portable soldier systems, and head-mounted soldier and aviation display and digital night vision systems. We are looking for a team-oriented, self-driven individual with a keen technical mind and creative aptitude. Candidate must have a detailed understanding of testing concepts and methodologies for testing systems with optical components. The candidate must be able to work in a fast-paced, highly technical R&D environment. The candidate is expected to support new product developments, enhance our current test capabilities, and develop novel assembly & test strategies for streamlined builds of new products.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Define & manage optical systems test requirements and integration plans
  • Develop & manage Requirements/Compliance/Verification Matrix for new programs
  • Develop camera based alignment & test tooling for HMDs and other optical & sensor systems
  • Design, build and validate assembly & test tooling
  • Develop & write test plans & procedures for new products
  • Conduct First Article testing for new products
  • Support “Design for Test” activities during new product development
  • Lead “Test Readiness Review” and “Manufacturing Readiness Review” efforts
  • Provide technical support to Production for build and testing issues
  • Work with optical, electrical, mechanical, and software engineers to debug systems and evaluate product performance on prototype & production systems

ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Understanding of optical principles and the use of optical components for developing test systems
  • Experience in test development of optical, opto-mechanical, and opto-electrical systems
  • Experience using test equipment such as oscilloscopes, cameras, MTF equipment, photometers,
  • Imaging systems test experience, specifically with cameras, displays or electro optical systems
  • Understanding of performance testing and validation of optical systems and components

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelors’ degree in an engineering field
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience developing test tooling for complex imaging systems
  • Demonstrated ability to design, specify, build and validate test systems for the test of optical systems
