Associate Research Scientist Molecular Bacteriology 1839

Kelly Services is currently seeking an Associate Scientist for one of our top clients in Raritan, NJ. This position offers benefits (medical/dental, paid time off, holidays, etc.)

The successful candidate will perform basic research to discover and characterize bacterial antigens with the goal of advancing the development novel vaccines to prevent bacterial infections. The primary responsibilities include the expression and purification of proteins, and the characterization of these proteins through biochemical and immunological techniques. These responsibilities require (1) experience with protein expression and purification from E. coli, including size-exclusion, ion exchange and affinity chromatography, with FPLC experience a plus, (2) characterization of protein-protein / protein-substrate interactions, with biolayer interferometry experience a plus, and (3) immunological techniques such as Western blot, ELISA, and bead-based immunological assays. The candidate will be responsible for data analysis and interpretation using various computer applications, such as Excel and GraphPad. Maintaining a clear written record of experimental design and results is a requirement, as is the ability to participate in writing reports, protocols and manuscripts. The candidate will also be responsible for maintaining laboratory equipment and supplies, as well as ensuring a safe laboratory environment. The candidate must demonstrate good oral and written skills, strong organizational skills, and the ability to work in a team environment. 

Additional skills:

  • Protein purification from E. coli and mammalian expression systems
  • Recombinant protein purification method development on AKTA (FPLC) systems
  • Characterization of purified proteins by ELISA and HPLC, with support of protein structural studies, including crystallography
  • Mutagenesis and screening of protein variants for desired characteristics

 

Qualifications

  •          BS, BA or MS in biochemistry, microbiology, immunology or related discipline required, with a minimum of two years relevant experience in industry
  •          Experience in protein purification and basic biochemistry is required
  •          Experience in basic immunology, including immunological assays, is a plus
  •          Experience with genetic manipulation of bacteria is a plus
  •          Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  •          Works well in a team environment
  •          Works well in a regulated (GCLP compliant) laboratory environment

 

The candidate will be required to provide their own IT device for the assignment. 

WorkSpaces Virtual PC does not have any hardware requirements, it’s all OS based.

Windows PC - Windows client application requires Microsoft Windows 7, Windows 8, or Windows 10.

MAC - Mac OS X 10.8.1 or later.

While workspaces is also compatible with Chromebook and iPad, IT does not recommend those devices for contractor/office use. 

Chromebook is not compatible with the client network and iPad does not currently have mouse support.
