Product Engineer

Kelly Engineering Resources has an outstanding direct hire opportunity for a Product Engineer. This position is with a medical device manufacturer and will be responsible for all aspects that affect the profit or loss of items in a product portfolio.

This position requires understanding of components, design, manufacturing processes, product development, inventory, marketing, sales, and delivery. You will need to understand how each aspect affects the price, quality, delivery of an item/product. You will analyze data specific to those areas in order make decisions that will enhance cost and delivery of products or to mitigate a potential loss on the that item. You will fill in gaps the exist between each department, provide insight to departments as to how they affect each other’s deliverables.

Essential Responsibilities of the Product Engineer

  • Manufacturing – identify areas to improve processes in metal forming, chemical usage, blow/injection molding, distribution in order to reduce lead times, costs or improve efficiencies. Support continuous improvement efforts through execution of plant projects.
  • Supply chain – minimize bottlenecks domestically and internationally, support purchasing when sourcing new suppliers, escalate quality issues.
  • Product Development – participate in design reviews, provide ideas to development teams, redesign existing products.
  • Support the development and delivery of product training to the sales team, customers and other internal functional groups as needed.
  • Partner with the commercial team to provide technical support for the development of sales/marketing programs
  • Serve as a project manager for key projects and drives new products, product revisions, and product specification changes with support from new product engineers.
  • Participate as a member of the product team to ensure effectiveness of production, quality, and service.
  • Partner with business leaders in operations and quality to drive improvement or change.
  • Support the Supply Chain team with respect to sourced components.
  • Perform business analytics
  • Report on key performance indicators.
  • Own market share data, competitive cross references and other key market insights and information
  • Lead cross functional teams and develops business processes that elevate product quality and service levels to meet customer needs


  • Internship – 3+ years of professional experience in product development, product engineering or product management capacity or equivalent combination of experience in business operations/costing, engineering and manufacturing.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering Required
  • Background in medical devices is a plus
  • Ability to problem solve with a diverse, multi-functional team.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize projects
  • Ability to trouble shoot and find creative solutions to business issues and processes
  • Analyze market trends and recommend changes to marketing and business development strategies based on analysis and feedback
  • Gathering and analyzing customer insight
  • Establishing and implementing communication plans
  • This position requires exceptional verbal & written communications skills and a personality that is adaptive to a variety of situations, roles, challenges and social as well professional customs
  • Ability to travel up to 75% both domestic and international once fully trained. This will be resolve and support manufacturing issues in Mississippi, Montana, Missouri and China.
