C++ Software Developer (W2, direct hire)

Overview: Kelly Services® is seeking a motivated, hardworking individual to join our client’s team as a C++ Software Developer. This is a direct hire role for a well-respected company in Gainsville, GA. Position Summary

The Software Developer is responsible for developing software for automated control systems and related IT products for the company’s product lines.



The duties & responsibilities of the Software Developer include, but are not necessarily limited to the following:


Software Development

  • Develops machine control software
  • Develops HMI/user interfaces
  • Develops databases for storage/retrieval of production data
  • Develops web-based production reports and user-accessible web-interfaces
  • Utilizes sound code writing practices
  • Utilizes version control tools and adheres to company’s revision protocol


Project Management

  • Provides technical support and leads/participates in the creation of functional specifications and design documentation
  • Provides technical oversight of testing and design verification of the software
  • Practices sound project management methods for all software and hardware projects that capture, for example: scheduling, budgeting, testing, resources, implementation, etc.
  • Provides technical support for software installation, configuration, and troubleshooting


Hardware knowledge/experience

Candidate should possess a solid understanding of the following hardware devices:

  • B&R Automation products (desired) or other industrial programmable controller devices
  • Systems networking
  • Raspberry Pi microprocessor
  • Inputs/outputs
  • Sensors (proximity, photo eyes, laser, etc.)
  • Switches, lights, buttons
  • Power supplies and transformers (12-24VDC, 120VAC single phase and 240/480VAC three phase, etc.)
  • RFID tags and readers


Minimum Education/Experience/Qualifications


  • BA/BS degree in engineering or related discipline (BSEE or BSCS degree preferred)
  • 5+ years of experience in the automation industry
  • Proficiency in the following programming languages and operating systems:
    • C/C++
    • Databases (MySQL, MS SQL Server)
    • .net
  • Experience with industrial computers (e.g. B&R Automation)
  • Experience designing HMI/user interfaces
  • Experience developing databases
  • Experience developing web-interfaces
  • Experience developing reports
  • Experience with Windows operating systems



  • Experience in the following programming languages and operating systems:
    • Lua
    • Linux
    • PHP
    • Real time operating systems
    • B&R Automation Studio
  • Experience with weighing and sorting technology
  • Experience in the meat/poultry/food processing industries
  • Experience with UL, CE, NTEP or other regulatory standards
