Animal Biologist - NIH - Bethesda, MD

This is a long-term contract position which offers:

TASKS. The contractor shall:

  • Work with and handle small lab animals (mice).
  • Work with BSL-2 pathogens, including aseptic technique.
  • Work at the BSL-3 level with appropriate training.
  • Experience genotyping and phenotyping mice is preferred.
  • Maintenance of animal colony including spreadsheets with animal numbers/genotyping data and breeding.
  • Attention to detail from established protocols or lab manager’s instructions.
  • Attention to all safety issues in the lab.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with other laboratory personnel.
  • Perform infections and harvest tissues initially with a supervisor’s guidance and then independently.


REQUIREMENTS. The contractor must have:

  • Bachelor’s degree Biological Sciences or a related discipline.
  • Four (4) years of experience in Molecular Biology, Immunocytochemistry, or a related field.
  • Demonstrates experience in performing surgical procedures with small animals.
  • Demonstrates experience in performing animal colony maintenance to include breeding, genotyping, and documentation
  • Strong communications skills, both oral and written.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, interpersonal and time management skills.
