Mail Clerk / Mail Sort Handler ­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­__________________________________________________________        

RATE: $13.58 + $4.48 H&W (paid in cash) = $18.06 HR

Option to work overtime (7 days per week)  Saturday - Friday

JOB SUMMARY:  Loads, unloads and moves bulk mail and performs other duties incidental to the movement and processing of mail.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Removes mail from cases/bins and place into designated container/tray. 
  • Places empty sacks or pouches on rack
  • Label where prearranged or where racks are plainly marked
  • Carries ail to distributors for processing, places processed mail into sacks
  • Remove filled sacks and pouches from racks 
  • Picks up sacks, pouches and outside pieces
  • Separate outgoing bulk mail for dispatch and loads mail onto trucks
  • Handles sacks and empty equipment
  • Inspect empty equipment for mail an restrings sacks
  • Cancels stamps on parcel post
  • Operates machines
  • Carry mail from the machine to distribution area
  • Assist in supply and slip rooms and operate copy machine and related office equipment.

OCCASIONAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:     

 

Must be open to duties with simple distribution of parcel post mail

  • Operate electronic fork lifts;
  • Re-wrap damaged parcels; weigh incoming sacks;
  • Clean and sweep work areas, offices rest rooms, and trucks where work is not performed by a regular cleaner.
  • Operates equipment and machinery assigned to the jurisdiction of the Mail Handler Union.

BEHAVIORAL SKILLS:

  • Exhibit an interest in working with people in a team environment. 
  • Demonstrate attention to detail with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Must be able to work independently and meet daily deadlines.  
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Experience working within a very fasted paced environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent optional
  • Must be 18 years old.
  • Able to perform data entry at a reasonable rate.  
  • Lift up to 30 pounds repetitively.  
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.  
  • Able to conduct repetitive body movements, push, pull, reach, bend and lift.  
  • Must possess strong communication skills.  
  • Requires the ability to lift and carry up to 15 pounds on a continuous basis, and up to 35 pounds on an intermittent basis.
  • Ability to receive approval for “Public Trust Clearance”

PAY RATE:  $13.58 + $4.48 H&W (paid in cash) = $18.06 HR

Base pay for the assignment is $13.58.  And that will only be paid H&W on the first 40 hours worked for the week (Saturday - Friday). 

All overtime is paid at the base rate of $13.58 x 1.50 = $20.37/hr.

Contractors will be paid for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s if they start the assignment prior to the holiday and are still working when the holiday arrives.  Holiday pay will be prorated based on the average number of weeks worked the week prior to, and the week of the holiday.  Any contractor who works on a holiday will be paid for the holiday (in most cases 8 hours), as well as for the hours they worked that day.
