Engineering Test Technician (Mentor, Ohio)

Our client, which helps create a healthier and safer world by providing innovative healthcare and life science product and service solutions around the globe, is currently hiring an Engineering Technician to work in R&D designing and fabricating test equipment. This position is a Direct Hire role. 

Position Summary:
Do you like to work in a collaborative environment bringing your expertise to every project?  The Engineering R&D Technician role may be right for you.  It supports R&D design initiatives, with the primary focus supporting the full cycle process of fabricating test prototypes. 

The Engineering R&D Technician will work to conceive effective test fixture designs, design and fabricate fixtures, and build the units from raw materials and must have a strong foundation and working knowledge of both Mechanical and Electrical concepts. 

Duties:
Assist with the design, development, building and qualifying of automated, turnkey test equipment.
Develop and fabricate test equipment in line with test specifications under the direction and guidance of direct supervisor.
Execute tests using test equipment that measures temperature, electricity, light, flow, pressure, strain, force, distance, time, noise, weight etc. 
Collect and analyze test data/results, document results and outcomes. 
Provide analysis of results to Engineering and R&D team members.
Support the design and fabrication/assembly of both working and visual prototype models. Materials include foam, plastics, and various metals. 
Analyze equipment failures and factory work stoppage problems and provide solutions.
Fabricates, repairs, improves designs of and constructs mechanical and electro-mechanical equipment Coordinate with outside calibration vendors effectively. 
Maintains detailed and up to date test data in laboratory notebook and active test logs.
Support manufacturing ramp up, and design transfer during product development.

Education Degree:
Associate's Degree in Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering

Required Experience: 
Two-year Associate Degree or equivalent, apprenticeship or comparable specialized study in mechanical and/or electrical engineering, beyond high school level and 3 years of hands-on Mechanical and Electrical experience. 
Must have broad base of knowledge with understanding and skills in the following areas: Electrical, Fabrication, Tool Making, Machining.
Must be very proficient in the use of machine shop equipment and all hand tools including saws, sanders, drills, grinders, press, brake, shear, lathe, milling machine.    
Able to operate test equipment that measures temperature, electricity, light, flow, pressure, strain, force, distance, time, noise and weight.
Can work from prints, sketches, written and verbal instructions. 
Reads wiring/electrical and piping schematics and engineering drawings.        
Electrical experience/training in use of and design of AC and DC circuits up to 480VAC 3ph.   
Proficient in computer use and applications and familiarity with Data Acquisition systems.    
CNC knowledge. 
Prior experience in Document Retention or PLM Software preferred Experience and knowledge of the following areas Rapid Prototyping, Testing and Design.
Controls Installation Design preferred,  Piping experience and ability to use electrical test equipment and measuring tools necessary.
