Location: TACOMA, WA  98405

Duration: Contract to hire

 

This Network Administrator has primary responsibility for the operation of the information infrastructure, including local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), and Internet. The Network Administrator’s responsibilities include network security administration; installing, configuring, and supporting infrastructure resources; monitoring network to ensure network availability to all system users and performing necessary maintenance to support network availability; monitoring and testing the clients web site performance to ensure web sites operate correctly and without interruption; network documentation; and maintenance of desktop hardware, software, and attached peripheral devices (e.g., printers, scanners). The holder of this position will also participate in the design, planning and execution of infrastructure to support new applications and technologies. 

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & BASIC DUTIES:

LAN and WAN daily administration, including system security, connectivity, stability, performance, integrity, and troubleshooting.

Windows Server administration and maintenance of Active Directory OUs, User Accounts, Groups, Resources, Protocols; TCP/IP, DNS, WINS, DHCP, RRAS, VPN, installing software, patches, security, anti-virus, security/performance monitoring and tuning.

Exchange Server Administration and maintenance of Email Accounts mailboxes, public folders, Web Access, Instant Messaging, Messaging Protocols; SMTP, POP3, IMAP4, and Outlook access.  

Maintain Secure and reliable connectivity to the Internet through T1 circuit maintenance, Cisco Router ACL configuration, and Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) server configuration.

Maintain Secure and reliable WAN connections to remote branch offices and mobile users through Cisco routers, T1 circuits, Wireless access points, RRAS and VPN.

Plan, coordinate, and implement network security measures to protect data, software, and hardware.

Operate master consoles to monitor the performance of computer systems and networks, and to coordinate computer network access and use.

Provide Network backup integrity and recovery coordination along with disaster preparedness planning.

Perform hardware and software upgrades to network servers, including operating systems and applications.

Provide ongoing maintenance of existing systems.  Diagnose and repair or oversee the repair of hardware/software failures, maintains inventory of equipment and parts.

Document network systems, operational procedures and, network topology.  

Involved with software licensing tracking and purchasing maintenance of operating system and software.

Provide training and orientation of staff in usage of network resources, personal computers, software, E-mail, Internet, and wireless systems as appropriate.

Responds, documents and tracks user requests for service.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

High School Diploma/Equivalent or College level computer training required (MCP preferred).

Ability to perform typical network administration skills including:  upgrades and maintenance of hardware, software, and operating systems, Windows and Exchange Server management, user and group administration, firewall and router configuration, LAN/WAN, DNS, TCPIP, WINS, DHCP, RRAS/VPN and IIS support functions.

Must have detailed understanding of enterprise directory services (Active Directory, Sun One, Novell NDS), AD is preferred.

Experience with Cisco switches and routers, general knowledge of cabling systems, hubs and routers, Ethernet networks, Frame Relay, T-1, T-3, ATM circuits.

Experienced using networking tools such as: Telnet, NSLookup, traceroute, ping, and port scanning.

Must demonstrate advanced knowledge in Microsoft Office suite support.

Must have a detailed understanding of PC hardware and components. Understanding of hardware component architecture preferred.

Must have a basic understanding of databases.  Experience with administration of any major database servers and detailed knowledge of database design and theory is preferred.

Experience with enterprise backup/recovery systems.  Verities Backup Exec experience preferred.

Experience with enterprise Anti-Virus software. Symantec Endpoint Protection preferred.

IBM iSeries (AS/400) experience along with and IBM i Access for Windows preferred.

Some rotational on-call duty will be required.

Is capable of lifting 50 pounds with or without accommodation.
