Senior Research Associate - Preformulation
A vibrant pharmaceutical client is looking for a high performing pharmaceutical chemist to join their research driven team immediately! The selected candidate will gain experience in designing in vivo studies and developing drug delivery systems and be evaluated for full-time hire at the end of the 4 month contract.

Position Overview:  This motivated, collaborative scientist will have experience working at the Discovery Research-(Pre) clinical development interface to assess and optimize the drug-like properties of peptides, proteins and small-molecule candidates for advancement to clinical candidate nomination. The hands-on scientist will be responsible for performing physicochemical property characterization, and developing formulations that enable delivery of company NCEs in a dosage form suitable for research / preclinical studies.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Partner with Chemistry and ADME colleagues to design and execute appropriate in vitro and/or in vivo studies to assess the drug-like properties. Develop appropriate drug delivery approaches in support of preclinical studies.
  • Contribute to physicochemical characterization, such as solubility and stability studies, and support project teams by generating test article formulations suitable for in vivo testing, as needed.
  • Have deep understanding of formulations, devices, PK and human dosability considerations (solubility, stability, tonicity, aggregation, tolerability, volume, viscosity etc.)

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree (BS) in Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or related field and 5-8 years of experience, OR
  • Masters (MS) degree in Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or related field and 3-5 years of experience.
  • Fundamental understanding of physicochemical properties as related to drug delivery and preclinical and clinical formulation design, experience in the development of in vitro approaches towards understanding in vivo performance, working knowledge of physiological barriers to drug absorption, including various potential transport mechanisms. 
  • Hands on experience with analytical approaches toward physicochemical characterization of drug candidates, preferably in a high throughput screening environment. Experience in HPLC is a must, LCMS, DSC, SEC, MALS and DLS are assets.
  • Working knowledge of typical formulation approaches and routes of administration (i.e. IV, SC, PO etc.) across multiple species.
