Senior Analytical Chemist

The candidate filling this position will lead a team of analytic chemists providing analytical support to advance company products. Candidate will assist in hemp regulatory compliance and submission of compliance documents to government entities. The senior analytical chemist will interact with all project team members and growth facility staff in research planning and delivery of project goals with seasonal and timeline driven deadlines. 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Quantification of cannabinoids in hemp for chemotyping and pre-compliance testing of research materials using GC-MS and GC-FID, specifically with Agilent equipment.
  • Provide expertise in protein purification and analyses, including gel electrophoresis and identification/ quantification of proteins of interest.
  • Perform ELISA, Western Blot, and LC-MS analysis of proteins.
  • Quantify and characterize gluten and starch branching enzymes.
  • Quantify amylose, starch, and other compounds of interest in wheat grain using established chemical analysis methods.
  • Provide regular updates to principal investigators.
  • Write detailed reports, dossiers, and standard operating procedures.
  • Maintain an accurate notebook and record detailed timesheets.
  • Strictly follow all safety procedures and documents.
  • Demonstrate ability of method development.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITITIES

  • Proficient in analytical chemistry techniques, including liquid-chromatography – mass spectrometry (LC-MS), gas chromatography – mass spectrometry (GC-MS), protein gel electrophoresis, enzyme activity assays, colorimetric assays, enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), and Western blot analysis.
  • Write technical documents including standard operating procedures, regulatory documents, and publications.
  • Periodically summarize and present results to others.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as provide support and training for others in a team environment.
  • Develop and trouble-shoot analytical methods, maintain scientific equipment, communicate with outside technical support.
  • Ability to lift 30 lbs.
  • Ability to perform tasks that require fine motor skills.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks that require fine motor skills for extended periods of time.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, or Biology
  • Experience with Mass Hunter Software
