Financial Analyst

Our client, a large pet food and pet products company, is currently seeking a Financial Analyst for an 18+ month contract position with the opportunity for extension.  The position is located in St. Louis, MO.

Pay Range: $32.00-$35.00/hour




Reporting to the Manager of Financial Analysis, this role provides financial support of ~30 capital projects across our client’s North American factories. This role will also provide financial support of department expenses.


Job duties:

  • Responsible for preparing capital cost reports (Excel based) on a monthly basis
    • Reconcile actuals to SAP
    • Review committed costs
    • Work closely with Project Mangers (PM) to estimate projected costs
    • Work closely with Project Managers to estimate cash flow by year
    • Track, monitor, and communicate capital projects at risk of exceeding the budget by 10%
    • Identify and communicate risks and opportunities to Project Managers
    • Document any accounting corrections and notify Procurement group and PM of the same
    • Work with PMs to explain changes in projections
    • Work with PMs to publish cost reports to SharePoint sites
    • Maintain cash flow forecasting in NIMT (Project Mgmt tool) in parallel with Excel reports
  • Provide capital cost summary reports at a total level (in partnership with other team members)
    • Rollup cash flow by year for all projects
    • Maintain master project listing (reconcile to corporate reporting)
  • Process improvement initiatives
    • Help develop more efficient ways of preparing cost reports
    • Internal tool enhancement team member
  • Miscellaneous help as needed from the Project Management team
  • Monthly and yearly closing support, including year-end accruals
  • Departmental budget support
    • Timekeeping
    • Journal Entries (travel and labor to capital projects plus ad hoc entries)
    • Staff record maintenance (mainly rate maintenance)
    • SAP purchase orders monthly reconciliation
    • Headcount reporting
  • Audit support
    • Provide spontaneous audits of capital project cost controls
    • Periodically audit invoice supporting documents to validate payments
    • Help develop vendor “rate book” to keep on file and use for invoice validation

Technical Skills

  • SAP knowledge
  • Proficient in Excel, Microsoft Word, Outlook, Access, and PowerPoint Software
  • Must be detail oriented and able to work with large volumes of data in Excel spreadsheets
  • Power BI a plus
