Telemetry Engineering Technician: Contract at Air Products in Allentown, PA

To create and enter all the necessary administrative and technical information required to successfully connect tank telemetry devices to the Air Products DOLV3 system, and to monitor, detect, respond and resolve operating performance issues with asset monitoring equipment connected to DOLV3.


  • This position is based in Air Product Corporate Headquarters in Allentown and supports the IG West geographic sub-region and ensures accurate and timely two-way communications exist between the Air Products client system and the remote field device.
  • This position roughly aligns with a Logistics service region and is responsible for end-to-end performance of the telemetry equipment in that region. 
  • You will manage list of trouble tickets, some of which are automatically created based on system detection of faults, and others of which are manually created based on requests from the client or other group.


  • Proficient in multiple PC based applications in a Windows environment.
  • Knowledge of basic electricity
  • Knowledge of basic sensor technology
  • Must have good telephone and written interpersonal skills
  • Must be familiar with customer service and logistics business processes
  • Must be able to provide the required know how to solve technical problems and provide technical solutions for Technicians.
  • Provides regular update status of non-working telemetry units and estimate date of job completion.



Performance can be measured by overall mean time between failures; mean time between failures with service calls; and overall time to repair.  Trouble ticket management can include direct customer contact to resolve power and phone issues, 3rd party hardware and software, and communications providers, internal requests for field technician repair resources, and provision of support and advice to field repair technicians.

Resolution also requires complete, accurate, and readable documentation of issues in the trouble ticket system. The incumbent provides several administrative support services, such as, updating customer information in the DOLV3 system, creating and maintaining group work instructions, and executing small projects.


  • Ensure that new telemetry equipment installations as well as telemetry equipment repairs for existing installs are performed in compliance with all safety policies and practices.
  • Ensure that new telemetry installations result in accurate and timely provision of data at the lowest cost.
  • Accountable for preventing telemetry-related customer product interruptions.  This also includes detailed investigation of root causes of product interruptions as well as active participation in the weekly North Product Interruption meetings.
  • Ensure that open trouble tickets are resolved as quickly as possible and at the least possible cost by reducing overall time-to-resolve.
  • Ensure proactive communication and collaboration with the two other Telemetry Center Technicians.
  • Identifying and resolving repeat systemic issues at the customer level.
  • Following up persistently with customers when dealing with a customer issue.
  • Performing these tasks in a manner that is client and customer oriented, and that reflects positively on telemetry operations and Air Products.
  • Providing after hours support to installation activity and repairs as required.
  • Providing complete accurate and readable documentation on all activities.



  • High School Diploma a minimum.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills to interact with external Air Products customers as well as internal colleagues.
  • Must be professional and courteous.
  • Must be a self-starter who takes initiative in learning and implementing new methods, concepts and/or technologies.
  • Must be a team player that is flexible and adaptable. Should be comfortable with change and can optimize processes and systems.
  • Customer Service exposure preferred.   
  • Liquid Bulk Experience preferred, but not required. 
  • Strong computer skills and proficient in learning in new software applications.  Able to use multiple PC based applications in a Windows environment.
  • Strong organizing and planning skills, including the ability to multi-task and to make effective decisions when dealing with competing priorities.
  • Experience with and knowledge of Environmental, Health and Safety Standards with a demonstrated commitment to Safety.
