Communications Specialist

Job Description

The Communications Specialist provides support for the SMU-in-Taos program in areas of administrative support, customer service, program representation, and event promotions.

Administrative/Front Desk Office Coordination
Serving as the main point of contact performing routine administrative duties- responsible for placing, receiving and routing telephone calls; receiving and directing visitors, typing, filing, faxing, handling department incoming and outgoing email, order and maintain supplies, provide backup coverage for department. Coordinate all billing and invoices for SMU-in-Taos Dallas office and Taos campus.

Promotions, Marketing, and Event Coordination
Promote SMU-in-Taos at university-wide events for current as well as prospective students and parents, answering questions about courses, credit, funding, and application processes.
Coordinate, schedule, and manage SMU Taos Marketing campaigns
Serve as the department representative at table events, orientations, open houses, shadow programs, individual visits and tours for families, group tours, or information nights
Research seek out and new sales/recruitment opportunities to put SMU-in-Taos in front of various audiences (pulpit talks, community events, class reunions, sorority/fraternity events)
Order & distribute promotional items including yard signs, car decals, t-shirts, and other promotional items during events.
Provide frequent communication to all prospective students, parents, faculty, and staff.

Director Support
Works with the Assistant Director in updating or creating the marketing material for both Dallas Office and Taos campus, including newsletters, material for digital marketing, flyers, and social media engagement
Contribute to planning, organizing, and advertising the SMU-in-Taos summer Colloquium Speaker Series, Family Spring Break, and any other Taos campus events
Assist with other projects as assigned

Location: Dallas, TX
Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:30am-5pm | Events could require schedule to include some weekend and nights


Requirements

Required Requirements:
1-2-year administrative experience
Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
A strong customer service orientation

Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with the ability to develop and maintain effective relationships
Candidate must demonstrate strong written communication skills with a high focus on attention to detail and accuracy.
Ability to copy, edit and proofread written material, as well as write in a range of styles appropriate to target audience
Be able to work independently, as well as, collaboratively within a team environment

Qualifications Preferred but not required:
Bachelor-s degree
Experience working in a student-oriented education setting in higher education Knowledge/experience in graphic design, communications, or marketing
Knowledge and or previous experience living, working or visiting Taos, NM
