Scientific Program Analyst - NIH - Bethesda, MD

TASKS. The contractor shall:

  • Provide technical, content and administrative support for the Office of the Senior Advisor to NHGRI Genomics and Health Disparities; work with advisory groups.
  • Organize manuscript development of scientific writings for NHGRI Genomics and Health Disparities and staff.
  • Perform statistical analysis for projects in support of NHGRI Genomics and Health Disparities and staff.
  • Organize with staff the development and management of scientific workshops and conferences in support of NHGRI; work with NHGRI leadership to develop the program requirements based on recent scientific developments in the field.
  • Organize the development of reports on behalf of NHGRI as guided by existing policies, procedures, directions, orders, and other guidance.
  • Use communication software to access and extract scientific information from a variety of sources outside NHGRI as guided by existing policies, procedures, directions, orders, and other guidance, including databases, literature searches and internet content-based searches; prepare summaries of background materials.
  • Draft and reply to scientific correspondence that may be of a technical nature, but that do not require staff attention or decision; forward correspondence to appropriate staff member for action as necessary; locate and attach reference materials as needed.
  • Compile, organize, analyze and write reports for materials related to the NHGRI scientific mission on genomic and genetic research.
  • Create and present materials including tables, graphs, PowerPoint slides for various scientific talks with the understanding of the basic scientific knowledge of genomic/genetic research of the NHGRI.
  • Present to NHGRI, NIH and extramural community talks related to the Health Disparities and Minority Health program.
  • Develop and track project action items and tasks; provide deadline reminders to staff; maintain spreadsheets of relevant information.
  • Organize the collection, coding and analysis of data for minority health, health disparities and other programmatic areas assigned for use in reporting and strategic planning.
  • Develop new NHGRI and trans-NIH initiatives in support of minority health and health disparities programs in genomics as guided by existing policies, procedures, directions, orders, and other guidance.
  • Organize events in support of the NHGRI Genomics and Health Disparities initiatives.
  • Conduct literature and web searches for genomic and genetic research information relevant to tasks; prepare summaries of background materials.
  • Develop and maintain scientific research budgets for NHGRI as guided by existing policies, procedures, directions, orders, and other guidance.
  • Work with staff from NHGRI divisions and other institutes and centers on the development and communication plans for advancements in genetic and genomic research.
  • Interact with senior staff at NHGRI and other institutions.

 

REQUIREMENTS. The contractor must have:

  • Ph.D. in Biology, Life Sciences or a related discipline; three (3) years of specialized experience plus a Master’s degree is equivalent to a Ph.D; five (5) years of specialized experience plus a Bachelor’s degree is equivalent to a PhD.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in biology, health disparities research or a related field.
  • Strong communications skills, both oral and written.
  • Demonstrated expertise with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.).
  • Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills.
