Epidemiologist (Pain & Alternative Medicine) – NIH – Bethesda, MD

TASKS. The contractor shall:

  • Collaborate with NCCIH Epidemiology Group to identify compelling research questions left unresolved in the epidemiology of pain and/or complementary health approaches (CHA).
  • Work with NCCIH Epidemiology Group to identify existing data sets that can be used to answer the compelling questions in pain and/or CHA epidemiology identified above.
  • Work with staff on developing and implementing analysis plans for identified data sets.
  • Take the lead in programming of statistical software such as, but not limited to, SPSS, SAS, Excel.
  • Take the lead in interpreting data produced through implementation of analysis plans.
  • Take the lead in writing scientific manuscripts and/or PowerPoint presentations based on implemented analysis plans.
  • Prepare summaries and reports based on results and findings.
  • Attend team meetings and other pertinent NCCIH or NIH meetings.

 

REQUIREMENTS. The contractor must have:

  • Ph.D. in Anthropology, Epidemiology, Neuroscience, Psychology, Public Health, Sociology, Statistics or a related discipline; three (3) years of specialized experience plus a Master’s degree is equivalent to a Ph.D.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of post-doctoral experience.
  • Expert level knowledge of epidemiology as evidenced by multiple scientific publications.
  • Documented knowledge in the epidemiology of pain and/or Complementary Health Approaches.
  • Documented proficiency in the use of one or more datasets maintained by Agencies within the Department of Health and Human Services, including the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS).
  • Strong communications skills, both oral and written.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills.
